Man Utd crash, Arsenal soar and Newcastle snooze

For some it was a wild weekend of predictions, for other, dismal, but the second weekend of the Premier League dished out some more eye-raising results.

Manchester United’s crash-and-burn at Brentford, where they went down 4-0, was the biggest shock of them all. United, the most successful club in the Premier League era, were four-down inside 35 minutes. ChippyBoy even predicted that United would falter by 6 goals, although they weren’t that bad.

They now sit firmly on the bottom of the log with no points from two starts, having conceded 6 goals and scoring 1 – no wait, that was an own goal!

Arsenal’s continued their upward trend with a very convincing performance against Leicester, winning 4-2, with Gabriel Jesus scoring a brace on his Emirates debut and despite an own goal from Gabriel Saliba, it was another solid performance from the defender.

Newcastle have yet to concede a goal this season – albeit only two games – but their lack of imagination in front of goal realized a 0-0 draw against Brighton.

Woody was all cock-a-hoop on Monday night, telling ChippyBoy and myself what a genius he is. Last season all we heard was “the form table” and that “Newcastle are the second-best team in England once Eddie Howe took over.

Now he sits top of the Fantasy Premier League log and smashed it in the predictions game too. I must say that it was rather a good (lucky) weekend for Woody as he failed to score any points in just three of the 10 matches predicted. He would say ‘skill’ while ChippyBoy and I would just go “meh!”

Lets have a look at the One Ball ZA Corner Predictions for the past weekend and – dare I say it – look at the log:

Well done Woody on a lucky, I mean good weekend.

When it comes to the Fantasy Premier League, as stated in the previous post, I have no clue what I am doing, and this past weekend’s results confirmed my thinking. Woody and ChippyBoy continue to fight it out at the top while I warm the bench at the bottom.

Woody, ChippyBoy and Grant were the top three in this GW, with scores of 82, 78 and 75 respectively. Me, well, I broke down and cried with my measly 47 points. Salah last week made good points in Liverpool’s draw with Fulham – Chippy and Woody had him as their captain while I had Jesus, who did not score in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Palace.

So this week I changed it up, made Salah my captain while ChippyBoy and Woody made Erling Haaland their captain. What happened? Salah was crap, Jesus scored two and had assists, Haaland scored and blah blah blah. I seriously give up on this game.

Now, to the upcoming round of English Premier League games. There is only one promising prediction I can make for the upcoming games and that is that Newcastle will concede their first goal as they host a rampant Manchester City.

So there you have it folks, Woody will be going into this weekend’s games full of confidence while ChippyBoy will be dreading his team hosting Liverpool. Me, well I will just cower behind the couch awaiting the barrage of sarcasm heading my way. Oh wait, that started last night as my Fifa XBox game night last night played as badly as my FPL and OneBallZA Predictions!

Let the sarcasm begin – knowing that I dropped 12 points in FPL for this week’s games as well!
