My birthday weekend turned out pretty smashing. I enjoyed a pork poitjie on Saturday, enjoyed the Prime Circle concert at Zevenwacht Wine Estate – the venue for my wedding some 19 years ago – and then settled down to watch Arsenal triumph over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
I had initially predicted a 2-1 victory, while ChippyBoy called it 2-0 and Woody – the numpty that he is – called Liverpool to win 2-0 but the Gunners ran out 3-2 winners, handing me 3 points and Chippy 1.
Manchester United recovered from their 6-3 hammering by Man City to record a 2-1 win over Everton, a result which earned me the only point as I said United would win 3-1 while Chippy said his side would lose and Woody predicted a dull 0-0 draw.
Newcastle were again on-song as they thumped a hapless Brentford side 5-1. Woody and Chippy picked up a point apiece while I put my tail between my legs after predicting a draw.
Elsewhere, Woody was spot on with his picks as Crystal Palace won 2-1 and West Ham downed Leeds 3-1. I managed a five-pointer in the final game of the weekend as Forest and Villa played to a 1-1 draw.
I maintained a two-point advantage over Woody as the two of us both secured 13 points while Chippy lost some ground with his haul of just 8 points, but still maintains a lead of 10 points at the top of the predictions logs.
This coming weekend’s matches has some intriguing match-ups as Brentford host Brighton on Friday evening to kick things off. Saturday sees a stuttering Spurs host a gutsy Everton, who lost just their second game last weekend.
On Sunday, Chelsea, now under the stewardship of Graeme Potter, should overcome the plucky Villains while Arsenal should maintain their grip on first place as they travel to Elland Road.
Then we have Chippy vs Woody as Man United host Newcastle and with Woody not bothering to submit his predictions, both Chippy and I have predicted a Newcastle win while Woody’s non-selection has forced him into predicting 0-0 draws for each and every game this weekend.
Then to round off the weekend, the big match of Liverpool, who thumped 7 past Rangers at IBrox in the Champions League, looking to stop the light-blue steam train of Pep Guardiola. I shall be rooting for Jurgen Klopp’s side of course!
Glenn’s haul of just 65 points in the Fantasy Premier League saw him surrender first place to VAR Rovers. Chippy dropped to third as Plumstead FC grabbed 77 points to move into second place while Woody’s haul of 71 points, kept him in fourth place.
My paltry 59 points kept me in 7th, just three points ahead of Chug Along Ponies but a massive 45 points behind Ready 2 Partey.
Can Arsenal maintain their grip on top spot? Can United make it two wins from two? Can Newcastle add to the nine goals scored in the last two games? Well, come Sunday evening, all shall be revealed.
