The mid-week games never saw the top two team play with City and Arsenal’s game postponed, and despite some snooze-fests, there were some interesting results.

Manchester United purred against Spurs, winning 2-0 at Old Trafford. There was some drama late on as Cristiano Ronaldo trudged down the tunnel before the game ended and leaving the stadium shortly thereafter after being an unused substitute. The Portuguese star was ridiculed on social media with many asking if his time at the Theatre of Dreams has finally come to an end.

Aston Villa suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Fulham at Craven Cottage, a result which forced the Villians hierarchy to call time on the Liverpool legend’s managerial career. Leicester secured just their second victory in 11 games, slotting 2 goals past Leeds United to lift them off the foot of the table.

But more interesting was the result at the Community Stadium where Graham Potter drops his first points as Chelsea manager. The Bees held the Blues to a goalless draw which saw them drop down a place to 10th while the gap between Chelsea and United is now just a single point.

Newcastle continued their good start to the season with a 1-0 win over Everton at St Jame’s Park. Newcastle’s victory kept them in 6th place, just a point behind United but having played a game more. Liverpool’s 1-0 triumph over West Ham moved them up to 7th, just two points behind Newcastle with a game in hand with Brighton a further point back.

The results surprised most of us but Woody made the most of the mid-week session, calling the 2-1 win for Crystal Palace over Wolves and Southampton’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth. Those two predictions allowed “The Delegator” to move top of the Predictions log with 92 points after securing 13 points.

Chippy’s nine points left him trailing by just one point while my miserable five points left me eight points behind Chippy and regretting ever starting this prediction game – just another log that I can prop up.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s fixtures, there is one that stands out – Chelsea hosting Man United. United’s recent triumphs over Liverpool and Spurs will see Erik ten Hag’s squad brimming with confidence, although Chippy doesn’t think so as he predicts his side to go down 4-1. Woody predicts the same, although calling it 2-0.

I, on the other hand, think it might be an entertaining match with the sides deadlocked 2-2 when the final whistle sounds at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs face another tricky test when they host Newcastle on Sunday with Woody calling for a 1-1 draw, while both Chippy and I going for a Spurs 2-1 triumph.

Arsenal, still sitting pretty at the top after City dropped points last weekend against Liverpool, travel to St Mary’s to take on Southampton where all three of us predict an Arsenal victory.

The biggest surprise of the prediction weekend comes on Saturday when Man City host struggling Brighton. I am calling a 3-0 win for City while Chippy is hoping for a Haaland masterclass with City running out 6-0 winners. But get this – Woody is predicting a Brighton victory by 2-0. And I had to triple-check his predictions to make sure I was not seeing things.

Come what may, some of us will be laughing while others will be – well, hiding under the beds.

I am not even going to talk about the Fantasy Premier League – it’s just not worth it. The only thing I will say is that I am back where I belong – ROCK BOTTOM!
